Acton, MA (September 23, 2007) --- More than 150 singers, dancers, musicians, and an acrobat will be featured in a performance of traditional Chinese music and dance on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. at the Acton-Boxborough Regional High School auditorium in Acton, Massachusetts.

This "2nd Annual Acton Traditional Chinese Music & Dance Night" is presented by the Acton Chinese Language School (ACLS), and will feature the Chinese Music Youth Ensembe of the Greater Boston Chinese Cultural Association (GBCCA), more than 60 members of the North American Chorus Association (NACA), several local Chinese children and adult traditional folk dance troupes, and an internationally acclaimed acrobat from China.

Dance groups performing include the Traditional Chinese Dance Troupe of the American Chinese Art Society, the Huazi Chinese Folk Dance Troupe, the Angel Dance Troupe, the Sunshine Dance Troupe, and Biyun's Chinese Children Folk Dance Troupe - all presenting colorful renditions of Chinese folk dancing.

"Our history and traditions are rich in colorful music and dance, and we are pleased to have this opportunity to give something back to the local communities who have welcomed us by inviting all the families here in Acton and surrounding towns to join us to share in the beautiful sights and sounds of China," said Ms. Yanni Gou, Principal of the Acton Chinese Language School.

Under the leadership of conductor Chi-Sun Chan and artistic director Taipan Chun, The GBCCA Chinese Music Youth Ensemble will begin the concert by presenting several classical and folk music instrumental pieces, including "Blossoms Under a Full Moon," "The Weishan Lake," and "Thirty Miles Village."

The GBCCA Chinese Music Youth Ensemble has performed frequently in the New England area in many cultural and educational settings, and their goal is to enhance the appreciation of Chinese classical and folk music by all audiences.

NACA singers from Chinese choruses in Acton, Andover, Framingham, and the Greater Boston Area's Yellow River Art Society will present three songs under the leadership of distinguished Conductor and Music Director Mr. Wanjun Qiao of Medford, Massachusetts and featuring gifted pianist Ms. Guo Ling of Andover, Massachusetts.

Those songs are: "My Flower," "Call Me by My Knickname," and "Lou Mountain Fort."

In the summer of 2006, many members of these and other choruses from Connecticut and Rhode Island competed in the 4th World Choir Games in Xiamen, China where they won silver and bronze awards in competition with more than 400 choruses from 80 nations. NACA singers continue to perform this Fall in concerts across New England.

The Traditional Chinese Dance Troupe, under the leadership of Artistic Director Jade Lin, will perform two dances --- "Peacock" and "Uncover Your Veil." While all the dancers are American-born Chinese, they are devoted students of venerable Chinese dance. These talented dancers have performed at both Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California, and in Hawaii, Pennsylvania, Taiwan and Shanghai – as well as many locations throughout New England.

Other dance segments will feature the Huazi Chinese Folk Dance Troupe, the Angel Dance Troupe, and the Sunshine Dance Troupe, all under the artistic direction of Ms. Ke Ke who instructs several local area dance groups in Chinese classical, contemporary, ethnic, and folk dancing for students of all ages.

The Huazi Troupe will perform "Dream of the Peking Opera."

For the past nine years, the Huazi Dance Troupe has performed throughout the New England region and their dancing combines the artistry and tradition of Chinese folk music with aerobics and Chinese body movements.

The Angel Dance Troupe will perform the Chinese classical dance "Dream of Dunhuang," a Han tribe folk dance "Plum Blossom in the Snow," and a Mongolian folk dance "On the Back of Horses."

The Angel Dance Troupe consists of more than 30 young dancers who bring to American audiences the ancient and ethnic traditions of Chinese dance.

The newly-formed Sunshine Dance Troupe will depict children merrily dancing hand in hand as they perform "Dancing to the Rhythm of the Song."

Another featured dance group will be Biyun's Chinese Children Folk Dance Troupe (Acton, MA). These young dancers, all under the age of 12 will be led by their Artistic Director Linda Biyun Zhu, and they will present a Dai tribe folk dance Spring Peacock."

Accomplished acrobat Ms Wangju Chang from Wuhan, China will display extraordinary rhythm and control as she dazzles the audience with her "Ppinning Plates" performance.

Ticket prices are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students and seniors, and all area families are invited. The performance is appropriate only for children five years old and above.
