About Us |

Acton Chinese Language School (ACLS) is a non-profit organization aiming
at providing an educational and cultural setting for youngsters and adults
alike in Acton and its neighboring towns to learn Chinese language,
traditions, and culture.
It is believed that cultivating Chinese culture and heritage into the
young and curious minds of American Chinese children will not only help
them better understand and appreciate their origins but also arm them
with a better view of the world, a more well-rounded personality, and
most important, a mind that tolerates and flourishes on
differences.
ACLS also warmly extends its hands to students from non-Chinese
families without regard to race, color, religion, gender and
national origin.
ACLS is where the West meets the East: Chinese culture is such
an abundant gold mine that it highly deserves exploration by
those who are eager to uncover its mysteries and savor its
richness.
ACLS is where the Known meets the Unknown: Teachers are encouraged
to provide top quality teaching to students, patiently and creatively
shepherding them along the adventure of exploring the Chinese language
and culture.
ACLS is where strangers become friends: students, teachers, parents,
and grandparents are enthusiastically advised to take full advantage
of the space, time and activities ACSL is able to provide, to learn,
play, and have fun together.
ACLS is non-political, but it strives for promoting mutual understanding
and trust among the Chinese community, and between the Chinese community
and Acton residents as a whole.
ACLS is non-religious, but it strives for strengthening family ties,
contributing to community services, security, and well-being.
The organization of ACLS consists of the Board of Directors,
the School Administration, and the Parents Council. It is a
member of the Chinese School Association in U.S..
ACLS adopts the Chinese Pinyin phonetic system and both simplified
and traditional Chinese characters writing system.
Classes of Chinese language ranging from entry-level to advanced,
as well as classes such as Chinese painting, martial arts, dancing,
chess and etc. are offered on each Sunday afternoon starting
from 2:00 in Acton's R. J. Grey Junior High School in regular
school semesters.
Deep water runs smooth. The success and future of Acton Chinese
Language School lie in the supporting and selfless hands of
those who have volunteered their time, wisdom, and all other
services in various ways.
Special thanks are extended to Mr. William Ryan, Superintendent
of the Acton Public Schools and the Acton-Boxborough Regional
School District, Mr. Malcolm Reid, Principal of R. J. Grey
Junior High, and Ms. Linda Mathinos, Director of Community
Education for their tremendous understanding and cooperation.
Nondiscriminatory Policy: Acton Chinese Language School
admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all rights privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made
available to students at the school. Acton Chinese Language School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin in administration of its educational policies, and other school-administered programs.
